LIGHTING IN URBAN PLACEMAKING

Interactive Lighting Installation- Creating a dialogue between people and the space.
This is a Public Space Design project in which I examined products, materials and systems, to be able to undertake lighting design of public spaces.
The places that I had chosen were 'Mayo Hall' and  'Civil Court' in Bangalore and keeping the essence as interaction with light, I brought in a few alterations in the space. The idea was that when a car would pass by the entrance the light intensity would increase or decrease, creating a curiosity among the people to come and interact with light and get to know about these places in a better way. I also added the element of light in the windows as well.
To accomplish my aim, I used sheets or square light tubes of LEDs embedded in the ground on a surface that had audio sensors.
I wanted to lighten up the front part of the Mayo Hall and the main entrances because when we see the Mayo Hall across the road,we can see only some part of the building and the rest is covered by the trees. By  lighting the entrances and the windows, they would attract the person to come and find out more about the building and the  pathway would  create  a  curiosity  among them, also building-up  awareness about the place.  For  the windows,  LED  (Light-emitting diodes )  were  used  which  change their  color  when  any vehicle  passes by the light tubes .
Lighting the building or its surrounding would help showcase its heritage status, its  history and its landmark value because lighting can give a sense of emphasis.
